Jason Day Leaves Nike for Malbon
Emergency press conference. Malbon just signed Jason Day to an apparel deal.
First we hear about Tiger leaving Nike. Now it's Jason Day. As a former Nike guy, I hate to see the decline in Nike Golf. But this is really fun for the smaller brands.
In golf and in the broader sports world, the mega brands aren't going anywhere. The days of their absolute dominance of everything are probably numbered, though. HOKA, On Running, now Malbon. All these guys are in play, attacking at the flanks.
I think this is a watershed moment. The diversification we're seeing is a response to the consolidation, back when there were really only three big brands: Nike, Adidas and Under Armour.
For Malbon it's a big move. Now they have a tour player who isn't just liking their product but wearing it on course during tour events. That's access to an audience they've never had before.
I think Nike keeps cutting marketing spend on big tour players like this. Maybe they hold on to one or two big ones. The Malbons and the Greysons of the world will snatch up some of these players and get in front of a bigger audience.
This is the beginning of Malbon stepping out of the shadows of the golf world and into the real world. Bigger than golf streetwear. A little less Supreme, a little more Lululemon.

As a former Nike guy, I hate to see the decline in Nike golf, but this is really fun for some of the smaller brands. I decline in Nike good, but this is really fun for some of the smaller brands. I agree. Both in golf and in the broader sports realm, the mega brands aren't going anywhere, but the days of their absolute dominance of everything probably numbered at this point. I'm thinking about brands like No, HOKA, On Running, Malbin now. All these guys are in play. They're attacking at the flanks. Love to see it. I think this is like a watershed moment where we're seeing this, diversification, which is a response to the consolidation when tier were really only big three big brands in Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour. And I'm here for it. What do you think this means? Why do we like this for Malvin? I mean, I think it's a big move for Malvin. They're now stepping into the tour players who are not just liking their product, but now gonna be wearing it on course during the tour, which gives them access to an audience that they've never had before. What do you think is next? I don't know. I think we see Nike continue to cut their marketing spend on big tour players like this. Maybe they hold on to one or two big ones, better think these other opportunities for the Malbuns and the Graysons of the world, they're gonna snatch up some of these tour players and get access to a bigger audience. I'm here for it. I think this is the beginning of Malbin kind of stepping out of the shadows of the golf world, if you will, and into the real worse, becoming a little bit less supreme, little bit more Lululemon for rank.
