Why the China Factory Luxury Dupe Videos Are Fake

By Colin LandforcePublished

All these China factory videos are fake.

The premise is always the same. I'm a factory in China. I make product for all these luxury brands. Because of the US tariffs, I'll sell you super premium product for dirt cheap.

Part of why these go viral is that people are shocked luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Hermès are made in China. Of course they are. China is the best manufacturer in the world. If it's made in Italy, it's probably made in Chinese-owned factories by Chinese craftsmen, but that's another conversation.

So yes, this stuff is made in China. Just not by the people making these videos.

Think about it. For a European luxury brand, the US is something like 25% of the business. If I'm a factory in China, the worst case is a 25% reduction in the product I make for them, and probably only temporarily.

Why on earth would I burn those bridges making stupid viral videos? I wouldn't.

These videos are marketing, and honestly brilliant marketing. They come from factories that probably make cheap dupes. Maybe really high-quality dupes. Either way, it's an excellent marketing stunt.

Head on a swivel, boys. And let's pray for the end of this tariff madness.
